Help for Beginners and ImproversRehearsal

IS THIS YOU?

I used to enjoy singing but haven't done it for years...
I love to sing but can't read  music ...
I would like to do it but am nervous about going along and not knowing anyone....
I recognise the Hallelujah Chorus but don't know much about classical music ......
I don't know what rehearsals are like, and don't want to show myself up....

We have all been there - it is scary to turn up  for the first time not sure what to expect, and  not knowing the music very well.
If you want to try singing with us, we offer two ways:

Our standard 4-week trial membership

Turn up at one of our practices at St Richard's Church, Gales Drive, Crawley RH10 1QF (entance and car park in Crossways).  We meet from 8 to 10pm each Thursday. You sign an application form, then you start a trial period of 4 weeks, with no obligation on either side.  If you are happy with us and we are happy with you, we then ask you to pay your annual subscription, currently £100.

Guest Membership

For one concert each year, we offer a reduced-price guest membership which includes hire of music.  This year's guest season is on now and you can sign up for £20. (See home page for concert details)

Learning your part on the Internet

Both these resources allow you to listen while following in the score, but are also useful just to listen to, to get your ‘tune’ fixed in your head.

www.cyberbass.org

This is a website that plays you your own part in a wide range of choral music.  You listen to your part online. You can listen to a playback with your own part emphasised, and can use ‘player controls‘ to change the speed.  You cannot save MIDI files from this site.

For our next concert, click on ‘major works’,then select Bach, St John Passion.

www.learnchoralmusic.co.uk/Bach/St-John/stjohn.html

This is the site if you want MIDI files which are more portable, and which you can play, save and modify, are available on . These files can be saved onto your PC, MP3 player or mobile phones etc. to access while you are on the move. Using a MIDI player you can also isolate your own part.  The link above takes you to the parts for the next concert.
